Champagne

Few names have the power to so readily conjure up feelings of celebration and epicurean delight, tradition and savoir-faire, as the title of this celebrated territory. Located only a short drive from Paris, it plays host to such world-famous domains as Dom Perignon, Krug and Louis Roederer, as well as the attendant luxuries to round them out: five-star spa resorts, excellent local produce and Michelin-starred restaurants. Fittingly, this is a region in which successive French kings came to be coronated, at the Reims cathedral, a practice that lasted into the 19th century. Yet the region has also found itself at the centre of a much darker history, playing host to some of the major battles of the First and Second World Wars. The diversity of Champagne is strongly rooted in this rolling landscape—waiting, ready to be explored.
